Goodness, gracious great balls of fire it is hot outside, or its wet outside or its hot outside or its wet outside…… thankfully it is delightful on our patio complete with roof, cooling mist and our very pretty brand new chandeliers. The chandeliers have absolutely nothing to do with the temperature but I just had to give them a little plug. They are very pretty and they, in my mind at least, complete the patio, just until something else comes along that takes my fancy I suppose (For example the old school hand basin planted with gorgeous pink begonias care of my friend Gwynn)
January came and went in a flash but whilst it was still here we managed to get quite a few new things on board. The most important of which is the LIQUOR LICENSE! It is finally here and we are able to sell alcohol in copious amounts. We are starting slowly and introducing different drinks over a period of time. Initially there will only be a dozen wines, maybe a baker’s dozen though! I have in my eclectic fashion gone for different and unusual wines that you do not see on menus everywhere, in short I have gone for wines with funky labels! I know that sounds a little “out there” but I figured the shop is colourful, bright and “out there”, therefore the bottles of wine need to be as well! I have made sure though that the bottles I have chosen are all reasonably priced and of nice quality. There are a couple of easy drinking ones and a couple of top of the ranges for the more discerning palates amongst you. For the full wine list and prices please consult the website! Yes, I said it, the website. has finally gone live and everything is on there, the menus, the wine list (if it isn’t it will be soon), the specials, the events and the pictures of everything past and present !
Last Saturday afternoon we played host to The Beanie Project. This amazing group of interesting people knit beanies for kids and others with cancer. What an incredible thing to do. Some of the beanies were absolutely beautiful and had gorgeous little flowers sewn on them. One very cute one that I saw was a teddy bear complete with eyes and ears, magnificent.
Happy February, the month on LURRRVVVEEEE
When I think of February I see the colour red in abundance. Red roses. Red hearts about, sweet angels sing love songs and there is a general sense of happiness in the air. We are going town this Valentine’s day. Pensioner’s you haven’t been forgotten, pop down for a reasonably priced lunch in a group or as a couple we will make you feel very special on the day, a lovers early morning breakfast ready from 07h30 if you want a “quickie” on the way to work and a full on Valentine’s dinner on the 14th. The menu for which you will find amongst the February menus. Even singles will be taken care of on the evening with a Valentine’s Singles Table; the one I will be visiting, so you won’t feel left out.
Pop me a mail to find out about corporate orders of cupcakes or cakes, Valentine’s cupcakes and heart shaped cakes. We have lovely heart shaped biscuits in stock as well and we can bake many more if need be. We can even, I am sure arrange delivery for you! Well worth thinking about!.

Thursdays are going to remain the same with our incredible R100 3 course special. Wednesdays are a floating evening with something different happening every Wednesday of the month, for example we have lined up for the first Wednesday of every month a fabulous quiz dinner at R120 per head. This starts at 6 for 6.30pm and should be over by 10pm, early enough for you to get home and to bed for a working Thursday! Menus will vary! Other Wednesdays are for a bridge dinner, games dinner, singles dinner and an ala carte sushi evening. So lots lined up! Fridays are pot luck! Come have sun downers with us from late afternoon onwards, and order a snack basket or stick around for pot luck dinner to line your tummy. We don’t want you going home too squiff eyed. AuthorTalk, Sunday 10th February
Our first AuthorTalk for the year is always a biggie and this year is NO exception! We are asking you to bring along blankets, pet food, dog bowls etc for Animals in Distress because this is event of the year that we work towards raising money collecting books and anything else that they can make use of. AID has their own vegetarian cook book out as well which will be available on the day and the bulk of our brunch menu is coming out of this very nice little book. With the help of you magnificent people in 2012, we raised just under R2000 for AID which includes T-shirt sales and Amiga’s Birthday Party. So you really do have huge respect due to you.
Joining AID are authors and journalists Anton Harber and Adriaan Basson with their respective books, Diepsloot and Zuma Exposed. Basson’s book is now in its second print run, and incredible feat in the South African market. Please join us at 9am with coffee and tea, authors will start promptly at 9.30am and breakfast and book sales will take place directly after everyone has had their chance to speak to you! Please book with me on lollipops@telkomsa.net. The cost is R100 per head of which R20 will go the 2013 AID collection! We rocked this building with last year’s event and around 70 people, let us see if we can repeat that remarkable feat again this year!
Sunday 10th Kick-off AuthorTalk with Adriaan Basson and Anton Harber with the incredible organization, Animals in Distress
Auriol Hays in Concert 1st March
Just a quick heads up about March 1st! Auriol Hays will be jetting in from Cape Town to serenade us with her incredible voice. If you cast your minds back a couple of years you will remember that she performed here with Keira Witherkay on a couple of Mother’s Days when she was just starting out. Now this incredibly successful home grown star is being played on radio stations all over SA, has her albums on the shelves of music stores and she is still incredibly humble and just as gorgeous! Her voice is a magical blend of sultry jazz and blues, you will just love her if you haven’t had the pleasure before. The cost of those tickets for the Friday evening is R150 and also includes a light dinner! Book and pay at the same time please lollipops@telkomsa.net
